WOODTURNIN WOES
I thocht on reachin 65, I wid jist retire
I'd read the mornin paper in front o' the fire
I'd potter in the gaerdin and walk alang the street
and spick aboot the worlds rangs we a' the folk I'd meet
This workit for a whillie bit I began tae see
That this sittin daein nithing wis jist nae use tae me
I wid hae tae find a hobby that wid pass awa the oors
When I wisna readin papers or watterin the flooers
A freen suggested turnin an I thoucht that wid maybe dee
So I ventured tae the Gordon Club tae see if this suited me
They made me very welcome they were jist folk like masell
Wha met up eence or twice a wik their stories for tae tell
They spoke aboot the problems that cam aboot each wik
As they tried tae fshion boony things oot o bits o' stick
A cup o' coffee an a buttrey sine a shottie on the lathe
I kent that I'de found something here for lord I liket bathe
So I bocht some chisels the best that I could
A second hand lathe and a few bits o" wood
I cleared oot the garage tae mak a bit room
An afore very lang I hid sticks furlin roon
My very first bowel wis nae very good
Bit I saw ma mistakes and I kent that I could
Dae a lot better if I kept on tryin
and so alki day the sawbust wis flyin
I've made bowels and boxes and spurtles and ladles
Candlesticks clocks and lamps for the tables
The list is jist endless o, fit ye can mak
And noo thst Iv'e started there is nae turnin back
And now a few months fae that very first lesson
The wife says this hobby's become an obsession
She claims I spend sae much time in that shed
I micht as weel move oot ma wardrobe and bed
Bit am haein great fun at this woodturnin game
An Iv'e made lots o' freens and it gives me an aim
Nae maeter how good the last een turned oot
The next een will be better withoot ony doot
